Northern Zone - Arenal Travel Tips

HOW TO GET THERE:
Head west on the Interamerican Highway from San Jose then north to La Fortuna, passing the colorful towns of Sarchi, Grecia, Naranjo and Zarcero on the way.

CLIMATE:
Lake Arenal is located in a tropical zone on the Atlantic slope at 400 meters above sea level. Warm but seldom oppressive daytime temperatures (low to mid 80's F), cool (60 F) nights and relatively high humidity characterize this area.
The rainy season occurs from mid April through December but wet weather can also occur during the dry months.
There can be intermittent rain showers that pass quickly and from late February to early May, those rains lessen in frequency and afford fantastic skyscapes during sunrise and sunset.

WHAT TO BRING:
As in other areas, rain gear and comfortable hiking shoes. Binoculars are mandatory since there is excellent birdwatching.
