The Swiss owned and operated Golfo Dulce Lodge is surrounded by the undisturbed primary lowland rainforest of the Piedras Blancas National Park, an extension of the Corcovado National Park, and the clear waters of the Golfo Dulce. The remote lodge at Playa San Josecito is only accessible by a minute boat ride from either Golfito or Puerto Jimenez.

The lodge is listed as one of the Top Ten Costa Rican Hotels by the German Travel Guide Book Polyglott / APA Guide.

The Golfo Dulce Lodge consists of more than 300 hectares (750 acres) and was acquired as an effort to protect and preserve the existing virgin rainforest. This is the place for nature and animal lovers to personally experience the magnificent world of an almost untouched environment far away from crowds of tourists.

The little complex of buildings is informally grouped together as a tiny village in a large landscaped garden right on the edge of the tropical rainforest and is less than 300 yards (250m) away from the rocky beach.

The lodge has 5 detached, spacious wooden Bungalows, comfortably furnished (including fan) each with their own private shower/toilet (warm water until sunset), as well as a large, private veranda with a hammock and a rocking chair.

Each room comes with a lockable safe for securing guests’ valuables. All bungalows and rooms are named after their individually crafted or painted wildlife motives on the wooden doors.

Besides the 5 Deluxe Bungalows they also have 3 standard rooms at slightly lower rates.

“Restaurante Tropical” with bamboo ceiling, serves delicious meals with local flavor and ingredients and hosts a cozy jungle bar and chairs for leisure. The large, covered rooftop observation deck of the Restaurant, furnished with comfortable bamboo sofas and decorated with lush tropical plants, is the perfect place for bird watching while sipping a refreshingly cold tropical libation.

ACTIVITIES:
  • Horseback-tour on the neighboring property to a waterfall
  • Free use of sea-kayaks
  • Light tackle fishing
  • Snorkeling
  • Safe swimming at the Lodge beach or in the chlorine-free pool.

For interested parties, there is a library and a selection of nature videos as well as an Info-Ranchito with hangouts about the tropical flora and fauna, traditions and history.

The Golfo Dulce Lodge offers boat excursions within the Golfo Dulce and to the Esquinas River as well as guided hikes in small groups through the pristine rainforest. A local, English speaking Naturalist or German/English speaking Biology Students guide all boat tours and hikes. Boat excursions depend on tide and weather conditions and not all tours are available daily.

Golfo Dulce Lodge has been rated with 3 green leaves within the 'Certification of Sustainable Tourism - CST', a product of the Costa Rican Tourism Institue (ICT) consisting of a scale of 5 levels for sustainable tourism achievement. This program was designed to differentiate tourism sector businesses based on the degree to which they comply with a sustainable model of natural, cultural and social resource management.

The sustainable awareness and the conservation efforts of the lodge have been acknowledged also by the New York based Rainforest Alliance Organisation which included the Golfo Dulce Lodge in their valuable "Certified Products in the Americas: An Exciting and Responsible Travel Choice!".
